Orleans Parish homeowners can apply for Homestead Exemption, Disabled Veteran Exemption, Special Assessment Level Age Freeze, or Disability Freeze exemption.

If you need to file for more than one Exemption or a Special Assessment Level Freeze, there is no need to make 2 appointments.

The application qualifications and document requirements are outlined in the following table:

Homestead Exemption

Every homeowner in Orleans Parish qualifies for a Homestead exemption on their primary residence. This exempts the first $75,000 of the home’s market value from taxation.

Primary residence/owner-occupied 1. Proof of Ownership
2. Valid driver’s license or I.D. (address must match the property)
3. A current Entergy bill, Cable, landline or internet bill. The service location and mailing address must match the property. The bills must indicate standard residential usage.

Disabled Veteran Exemption

Veterans with a service-connected
disability of 50% or more
may qualify for additional tax savings.

50-70% Disabled = $2,500+$7,500=$10,000

70-99% Disabled = $4,500+$7,500=$12,000

100% Disabled = Total Exemption (excluding non-Homestead Exempt millages)

1. Driver’s license or I.D (address must match the property).
2. A property tax benefit certification that has been stamped and certified by a VA representative.
3. VA Benefit summary that shows the service-connected percentage
of disability.

Special Assessment Level Age Freeze 65 or older
Annual household income of $100,000 or less.

*Applies only to Homestead Exempt properties
Driver’s License or I.D (address must match the property).
Previous year’s signed 1040 tax return
Social Security award letter; retirement/
pension award letter.

* If no longer required to file a tax return, a letter from the IRS must be provided after April 15th that states no tax return has been filed.

Disability Freeze Verification from a federal or state agency of 50%-100% disability. Annual household income of $100,000 or less.
